The Regulatory Clock Is Running
The EU AI Act is now an operating issue for every organisation using AI.
The EU AI Act applies according to an organisation's role, its AI systems and the way those systems are used. A law firm will commonly be a deployer, although it may assume additional responsibilities when it develops, materially modifies or places an AI system into service under its own name.
AI literacy and prohibited-practice obligations are already in force. Transparency rules apply from 2 August 2026. The amended timetable extends the principal high-risk system requirements into 2027 and 2028.
Preparation requires more than a policy. Firms need visibility over AI use, documented decisions, risk classification, staff capability, vendor controls, human oversight and an evidence trail.
